Our core values provide us with a means of not only guiding but also evaluating our operations, our planning and our vision for the future.

"It usually takes more than three weeks to prepare a good impromptu speech."

(Mark Twain)

Toastmasters Explained...

The PRIMARY OBJECTIVE of Toastmasters is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which the member is helped to become a competent communicator and effective leader.

The first manual of speeches, the Competent Communicator Programme, CC for short, comprises ten projects.  Most Toastmasters spread them over a year or two.  Once the CC Programme is successfully completed, the Toastmaster is awarded a CC (Competent Communicator) certificate.  After this, one can progress through the Advanced Communication programme which is more specialised.

What's in it for you?
Toastmasters will give you the skills and confidence you need to effectively express yourself in any situation. By learning to effectively formulate and express your ideas, you open an entirely new world of possibilities.

"Every speaker has a mouth;

An arrangement rather neat.

Sometimes it's filled with wisdom.

Sometimes it's filled with feet."

(Robert Orben)

The old speaker proverb says, “When you squeeze your information in, you squeeze your audience out.” There’s no time to connect with your audience when you are rushing through your material. When I first started speaking, I said to my mentor, “I can’t seem to fit what I have to say into the time-frame that they’ve given me. What should I do?” Unfortunately he said, “Talk faster.” I followed that advice for some time until I realized, “I need a new mentor.”    - Craig Valentine, 1999 World Champion

"There are three things to aim at in public speaking: first, to get into your subject, then to get your subject into yourself, and lastly, to get your subject into the heart of your audience."

Alexander Gregg

Afraid of public speaking?

The fear of speaking in public is the #1 fear of all fears. The fear of dying is #7! People experience all kinds of symptoms:Sweaty palms, accelerated heart rate, memory loss and even difficulty in breathing.

Mark Twain said it best, "There are two types of speakers: those that are nervous and those that are liars".

Toastmasters is a program designed to support you 100% through your process of facing this fear in your own time and growing and learning to be the best communicator & leader you can be.There is no pressure at Two Oceans put on members to speak until they are ready to. Sometimes just watching is enough to start overcoming any fears you may have
