6 Feb: Club Meeting Review

Posted by LP User on Monday, February 11, 2013 Under: Meetings
What a vibrant February meeting ! Two Oceans is truly on a roll and destined to be a top club!  We won (yet again) the covetted Treasurer' excellence award for paying over ALL our dues on time. Well done Verity and thank you all club members!

It was a meeting of firsts. Not only did we have the privilege to induct 2 first time toastmasters (Carey and Dawid), but for the first time our meeting was recorded on video (thank you Aaron)! We also had a first time toastmaster of the evening - Mallorie Lee and another first was Reto starting his Toastmasters journey with his entertaining CC1!

Both Carey and Dawid are very keen to get stuck into Toastmasters – so keen that Dawid completed his CC2 last night. With five new people having joined since January we are a step closer to our DCP goal of President’s Distinguished since we now have 6 points in the bag
(we need 10 by June)!

Of the 7 guests at the meeting Jeremy promptly signed up 2 as new members! One of them (Clint) is an experienced member from Hout Bay.

The speeches were of the usual high standard that we are used to at Two Oceans :

  • Dawid Mocke (CC2) taught us how to set goals
  • Reto Carmichel (CC1) entertained us with a hilariously funny rendition of the the antics of a jetsetter and how he got to Fish Hoek
  • Sandi Welsh (CC3) entertained us with a guide to being a mother
  • I am keeping in practice by starting the CC route again by doing a CC 1.
During Table Topics Claire Strobach had everybody in stiches with her Valentine gifts..

I wish to congratulate the award winners of the evening:

  • Best speaker : Reto Carmichel
  • Best evaluator : Francois Roux
  • Best table Topics : Francois Roux
  • Leadership : Francois Roux
Throughout the evening Mallorie Lee did a stirling job as Toastmaster of the evening and kept us entertained with the antics of Winnie the Poo. We closed at bang on time at 22h00.

Some exciting club news is that Claire Strohbach has kindly agreed to take on being the VPE for the Early Bird Express meetings each month. This is a fantastic leadership opportunity for her and the committee is very excited to have her on board. Thank you Claire!
