5th September: Meeting Review

We had a brilliant meeting to herald in Spring! The four outstanding CC2's really proved that the quality of speakers at Two Oceans Toastmasters is exemplary. With Aaron pondering the pro's of Possum Plucking, Mallorie uncovering the silver lining of her fears, Jeremy reminding us that Gingers are people too, and Claire exploring whether or not we should respect our elders – our September meeting was a laughter filled and very memorable meeting. The quality of speeches was so outstanding that Lorne abstained from voting for which was best, but in the end Jeremy took the honours : )

It was fantastic to welcome Talking Heads Toastmasters as they came along on their 'Mike' Raid. They gave an hilarious and impassioned plea, that was brilliantly matched by Lorne's rebuttal pointing out that given they had carpooled at last week's petrol prices, they really hadnt made enough effort to warrant taking 'Mike' home with them. In the end Tony did the right thing and gallantly handed 'Mike' over.

Babette's educational on Table Topics was enlightening to all, and the quality of impromptu speeches was really high and incredibly entertaining as a result! Tony in his role as Toastmaster – gave us a brilliant example of how the role should be run, which provided excellent learning for everyone – members and visitors alike. Verity's role as Grammarian helped to point out excessive UM's (winner of evening was Babette with 21!) and Bar-Ones were awarded to speakers who didn't vacillate when it came to using her word of the evening : )

Paul Kilfoil gave a moving Thought of the Evening thanking all the people who have touched his 12 year journey as a Toastmaster. It is a huge loss to the club to have him leave, but we hope to have him back as a visitor soon.
